Welcome to the site, and thank you for spending your time here! I’m Lauren Vignec, the creator of SpendSmartLiveRich.
I’m a financial advisor for clients with hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, and also for middle-class couples who are just starting to invest for retirement. In terms of investment philosophy I am a proud Boglehead, and a co-author of the “Bogleheads Guide to Retirement Planning”, published by Wiley and Sons. I’m also the preacher at Salishan Eastside Lutheran Mission, a church dedicated to ex-prisoners, addicts, and anyone who often doesn’t feel welcome at a regular church. I’m an Enrolled Agent and in a past life spent years doing taxes for small business-owners of all sorts.
In other words, I am one of the few people anywhere who has real, concrete, day-to-day experience dealing with the money issues of just about the whole range of American society, from the very poor to the very rich.
Money is not just one thing. It’s different stuff to someone who’s on disability, someone who’s an entrepreneur, and someone who is a retiree.
No matter who you are, and no matter what money means to you, my hope with this website is that you will find something here that you can immediately apply to your day-to-day life. You started off wherever you started, your past experiences are whatever they are, and you have learned the lessons you’ve learned so far. No matter what point you find yourself at, in this moment, you can move forward from that point.
Financial freedom means, to me, that I spend my time every day doing what I would do even if I was not getting paid. Financial freedom means freedom from financial stress, and freedom from having to work simply for income. It means I can’t remember the last time I set an alarm clock.
I grew up quite working class. This financial freedom was not given to me. I earned it, step by step. Not just one day at a time. One moment at a time. One decision at a time.
There is nothing like the feeling of financial freedom. Everyone, really, everyone, deserves to have a free life. You can achieve financial freedom, too, on your own terms. One step at a time. One moment at a time. One decision at a time.
